About GMIA Greater Midstates Insurance Agency is by design a "unique" cluster. The ownership rests with three independent agencies all located in the State of Illinois. The three owners have a common desire to remain independent and to address individual markets, products, cost, containment, automation, etc. The four owners serve the Corporation in various capacities as an officer, director or both. Each owner serves as a regional manager, supervising several counties in their geographic area.. The number of quality carriers desiring to be associated with the cluster has far exceeded expectations. It also became obvious that a number of other independent agencies wished to take part; as a result a nonequity agreement was drawn up which permits other independent agents to be a part of the cluster through the payment of a small membership fee and the placement of a minimum volume of business through the cluster markets. No brokerage business is accepted and all members benefit by having a number of excellent markets, the ability to participate in contingency commissions, etc. GMIA has expanded to permit writing in Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa and Missouri. Plans are in place to also expand into Kentucky. A number of niche marketing opportunities are being made available to the membership and others are on the drawing board. There are numerous advantages to being a member of Greater Midstates. Many of our members are active in the PIIAI, NAMIC, IAMIC, Illinois Life Underwriters and other organizations.
